Frequently asked questions about the trace moisture analyzer

How is the traceability?

It is traceable to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, JAPAN. A certificate can be provided upon delivery if desired.

Does it require calibration?

Calibration is recommended once per year. Note that since all calibration is performed by a laboratory of our company in Japan, the cost is reasonable and delivery can also be handled in a short time.

If calibration is needed, please tell us the frequency and procedure.

Ask at the distributor where you purchased the product.

Can it be made explosion proof?

Can be done with the FT-300WT.

How are the acquired data read out?

Since the data are recorded in memory inside the device, they can be read out from a USB port at any time.

The T-700WT is able to detect the composition of the background gas down to the % level. How is this possible?

The composition of the background gas can be detected down to the % level using the FT-700WT since it uses phase and attenuation for measurement. Although the background gas settings previously needed to be changed in advance when measuring the dew point, this is not required with the FT-700WT, which is able to correctly measure the dew point automatically even if the background gas is switched during the measurement.

Are there any parts that require replacement?

There are no parts that require periodic replacement other than the carrier gas in the hydrogen canister.
Although the column and detector need to be replaced when they reach end of their life, there is nothing that needs to be replaced periodically.

Why is hydrogen used as the carrier gas?

Hydrogen is most useful for packing the carrier gas into a small canister. Furthermore, hydrogen is more useful than helium for obtaining the best performance for the gas chromatograph.
Although helium is a typical carrier gas, it was not adopted since it is expensive and difficult to obtain. However, it is possible to use helium, so please contact us if you have that requirement.

Please tell us how to fill the hydrogen canister.

The hydrogen canister should be filled from a hydrogen cylinder or hydrogen generator.
A cylinder adapter is provided by our company.

Can helium or air be used as the carrier gas?

Can hydrogen be directly supplied to the gas chromatograph from a hydrogen cylinder?

How can the acquired data be read out?

Since they are saved directly on the C drive of a PC, they can be read out via the USB port at any time.

Can the column be cleaned?

Sylph can be cleaned easily since it has a function called backflush mode. If you think that the column is dirty, turn on backflush mode before starting a measurement. Cleaning will automatically be performed once the measurement is completed and backflush mode will automatically turn off once cleaning has finished.
